Tips Studio Spasial - Windows 7 memang bukan operating system baru, namun bagi praktisi Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG) saya yakin masih banyak yang menemui kesulitan ketika menggunakan sistem operasi windows 7 sebagai sistem operasi dasar dalam PC atau laptopnya. Banyak kendala ketika kita melakukan instalasi program-program GIS maupun ekstensi-ektensi program SIG yang bertebaran diluar sana. Misalnya ketika melakukan instalasi ArcGIS 9.3 dan update ArcGIS 9.3.1, instalasi XTools Pro 5.2, atau instalasi ERDAS 9.2.

Berikut ini adalah salah satu contoh error saat instalasi ekstensi ArcGIS XTools Pro 5.2 : Microsoft.VC80.OpenMP,type=”win32″,version=”8.0.50727.762″,publicKey Token=”1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b”,processorArchitecture=”x86″‘. Setelah diperhatikan dan browsing sana-sini ternyata OS Windows 7 memiliki limit / pembatasan penulisan registry. Sehingga ketika kita melakukan instalasi sebuah program yang melakukan update atau penulisan registry melebihi jumlah yang diperbolehkan dalam setting registry maka instalasi program akan gagal. Untuk mengatasi Registry Size Limit tersebut maka dapat kita lakukan langkah berikut ini, namun sebelumnya uninstall terlebih dahulu program yang gagal anda instal :

1. Buka window perintah Run dari Start > All Programs > Accesories > Run. Window perintah Run dapat diakses juga dengan kombinasi Tombol Keyboard Windows + R.
2. Ketik Regedit untuk membuka Registry Editor.
3. Pilih Yes jika ada pertanyaan UAC (User Account Control).
4. Pilih HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
5. Pilih System.
6. Pilih CurrentControlSet.
7. Pilih Control.
8. Double Klik pada RegistrySizeLimit. Secara default nilainya adalah 5d00000 atau 97517568.
9. Isi dengan angka yang lebih besar seperti ffffffff atau 4250967296
10. Klik Ok.
11. Restart komputer.
12. Instal kembali program yang anda diperlukan.

Menggunakan langkah diatas maka masalah Registry Size Limit pada windows 7 sudah dapat teratasi.

Spatial Book – Image analysis has become an essential part of remote sensing, along with the increasing availability of aerial and satellite Earth observation data. Image Analysis, Classification and Change Detection in Remote Sensing : With Algorithms for ENVI/IDL is a book that combines theory, algorithms, and computer codes and conveys required proficiency in vector algebra and basic statistics. It covers such topics as basic Fourier transforms, wavelets, principle components, minimum noise fraction transformation, and othorectification. Spatial Books – This Remote Sensing and Image Interpretation book content a comprehensive introduction to Remote Sensing that covers the science from physical basis to sensors and applications. It is not a how to do it book as opposed to a complete textbooks for students in this area who need good background of the science and its application. We can use it as a good textbook for solid foundation prior to more practical texts on how to do it.

I am reading this book for an introductory course in Remote Sensing. I thoroughly enjoy the level of detail and the presentation of quantitative methods for analyzing data. The text can be somewhat dry (and dense) at times and difficult to digest, but for the most part, it manages to stay interesting. There are a lot of illustrations (including a whole section of color plates) that the student can reference. Also, the scope of the book is broad enough to be suitable for an introductory course, but still manages to stay focused (only 8 chapters!). More Review on Amazon.

Info Spasial - Remote Sensing for GIS Managers is a book that incredibly readable even for someone just getting started in Remote Sensing and GIS managing. Visual stunning pictures and enlightening figures dot every single page. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the science and practice of GIS management.

Spatial Info – Looking for a book to start learning ArcObjects? This book is a good place to start on ArcObjects. As the title suggests, this book is devoted to teaching the basics of programming with ArcObjects, and it does an outstanding job. It primarily deals with the designing of interfaces, rather than using the commands for automation. Good introduction to the concepts of the ArcMap Object model, properties, methods, and events, there's even a little blurb or cursors. Content in this book also covers a little of ArcCatalog. Just for information, ArcTools does not follow the ArcObject Model, so if you are looking for properties, methods and events pertaining to this, and you are using ArcGIS 8.x, I guess you need to upgrade yours to ArcGIS 9.x. Also, there are no scripting capabilities similar to AML on ArcGIS 8.x, you'll have move to ArcGIS 9.x, where python is used as the scripting language to replace AML. Also, does not address OOP concepts on the GeoDatabase model very much, but this book is definitely better than Getting to Know ArcGIS Book

A lot of reviewers have summarized the book (Getting to Know ArcObjects) well, although I do think that some had more advanced expectations, even though the title of the book makes it clear that it only covers introductory material. Overall, what impressed me most was Burke's exceptional ability to take complex concepts (like interface-based programming) and explain them in a clear and concise manner. The writing is impeccable, and I found very few flaws in the book, which is incredibly uncommon for computer books. Obviously, a great deal of care and attention went into the preparation of this book. The reader won't be disappointed. I currently own every ArcObjects book in print, and in my opinion, this is the only book useful for those trying to learn ArcObjects. Highly recommended. More Review on Amazon.

Studio Spasial – Have you read or using this book? Usually books about GIS are quite technical, surveying the applications and computer potentials of geographic information systems (GIS). So it's refreshing to note that A TO Z GIS : AN ILLUSTRATED DICTIONARY OF GEOGEPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS is something different, a simple set of geography and cartography definitions designed to defines values, coordinates, reference systems, representations, and GIS data processing methods and routines. Students of GIS will find this essential to understanding the terminology of both computer and geography worlds.

I found this book useful while studying for exams and oral examinations during my Masters program. The things to remember is this is a ESRI book and uses their terminology. If you are a student I would recommend this book to use a reference. The book isn't going to teach you GIS, it is meant to be used as a reference. Lumayan, dari pada beli software mahal dengan fungsi yang sama tapi jarang dipakai. Ada 30 software (tidak kurang dan tidak lebih) yang bisa anda download gratis dan jajal sendiri, beberapa sudah juga Studio Spasial pakai dilaptop pinjeman kantor.

Perkembangan teknologi informasi semakin "menakutkan", bayangkan saja kalau kejadian seperti yang diberitakan dalam kompas [dot] com berikut terjadi pada anda. 

Thanks to Kompas.com for the posting idea. Tapi coba kita sedikit jeli, mungkin gak sih hal seperti diatas terjadi. Hal itu mungkin bisa terjadi, tetapi satu banding sepersekian kemungkinan. Mengapa ? Karena image / citra yang tersedia dalam layanan Google Street View belum bersifat real time. Artinya gambar yang terlihat hanya merupakan hasil rekaman pada waktu tertentu. Kabel UTP tersusun atas empat pasang kabel kecil didalamnya, dengan warna yang berbeda-beda. Keempat pasangan kabel UTP tersebut adalah :

• Pasangan 1 : Putih-Biru dan Biru,
• Pasangan 2 : Putih-Oranye dan Oranye,
• Pasangan 3 : Putih-Hijau dan Hijau,
• Pasangan 4 : Putih-Coklat dan Coklat.

Ada dua tipe pemasangan kabel UTP pada konektor RJ45, tergantung tujuan pemanfaatan kabel itu nantinya, yaitu tipe Straight Through dan Cross Over. Perbedaan kedua tipe tersebut adalah :

• Straight Through
  Pemasangan kedua ujung kabel UTP pada konektor RJ45 dilakukan berdasarkan urutan warna sebagai berikut :
  Pin 1 : Putih-Oranye,
  Pin 2 : Oranye,
  Pin 3 : Putih-Hijau,
  Pin 4 : Biru,
  Pin 5 : Putih-Biru,
  Pin 6 : Hijau,
  Pin 7 : Putih-Coklat,
  Pin 8 : Coklat,
  Tipe pemasangan seperti ini dipakai pada LAN Ethernet 10BaseT, untuk menghubungkan PC dengan HUB atau SWITCH, PC dengan outlet di dinding, dan atau dari HUB ke outlet di dinding.
• Cross Over
  Pemasangan salah satu ujung kabel UTP pada konektor RJ45 dilakukan sesuai cara pemasangan tipe Straight Through, sedangkan ujung kabel yang lain ke konektor RJ45 dilakukan berdasarkan urutan warna sebagai berikut :
  Pin 1 : Putih-Hijau,
  Pin 2 : Hijau,
  Pin 3 : Putih-Oranye,
  Pin 4 : Biru,
  Pin 5 : Putih-Biru,
  Pin 6 : Oranye,
  Pin 7 : Putih-Coklat,
  Pin 8 : Coklat,
  Pemasangan kabel tipe ini biasanya dilakukan untuk menghubungkan HUB/SWITCH dengan HUB/SWITCH, dan PC dengan PC.

Alat dan bahan yang dipergunakan dalam pemasangan ini adalah :

• Kabel UTP.
• Konektor RJ45.
• Crimping Tool.

Langkah keja pemasangan kabel UTP pada konektor RJ45 adalah sebagai berikut :

• Lepaskan selimut luar kabel UTP tanpa merusak empat pasang kabel didalamnya menggunakan crimping tool.
• Potong dengan rapi keempat pasang kabel sehingga hanya memiliki panjang setengah inci dari potongan selimut luar, agar kabel nantinya dapat terpasang dengan erat pada konektor RJ45.
• Buka klip pada konektor RJ45 lalu masukkan kabel-kabel tersebut ke dalam pin-pin didalamnya sesuai ketentuan tipe pemasangan.
• Eratkan kabel UTP dan konektor RJ45 dengan menggunakan crimping tool.
• Test koneksi kabel.
